FAQ
-
Which material is most suitable for kitchen counter tops?
Definitely, quartz and ceramic. Ceramic is composed of clay, porcelain, dyes and ceramic binders that goes through several steps of thermal processing, whereas quartz is compressed from a combination of a very high percentage of natural ingredients and a few man-made ingredients. Because these materials can withstand heavy loads, are scratch and stain resistant, and anti-bacterial, quartz and ceramic are both suggested for kitchen counter tops. Despite the fact that these materials can endure high temperatures, it is not advisable to place hot pots and dishes directly on the surface due to the sudden temperature change.
-
Which materials are ideal for internal use and which are ideal for external use?
All natural and man-made materials can be used internally however materials that are made from resin are not recommended for external use. When selecting materials, other material properties like durability and finish should be taken into account.
-
Which materials are best for flooring above an underfloor heating system and for fireplace cladding?
Marble, granite, stone and terrazzo are all excellent choices to consider for flooring above an underfloor heating system, either electrical or water, as well as for fireplace cladding as they have the best thermal conductivity and therefore produce the best heating output. It is crucial to consider the tile thickness and particularly for terrazzo, the manufacturing bonding ingredients as there are some that are mixed with epoxy.
-
Which materials are porous and which are not?
Marble, granite, quartzite, stone, terrazzo and resin are all porous materials, some more than others. Having said that, some of these materials are commonly used for facades, flooring, staircases and sills due to there superior material properties. In some cases, a liquid sealer is applied to the surface of the material however this is not a permanant solution. Quartz and ceramic are non porous.
-
How long before should I proceed to order the kitchen counter top?
To ensure the material is available, it is advised to place an order for the kitchen counter top three months in advance; however, most materials are already available in-stock and hence this lead time is much less. Kitchen counter tops can be installed within three weeks from when the kitchen is assembled.
-
At what stage should I plan the installation of the sills, flooring, and stairs?
The sills should ideally be installed prior to plastering. The flooring can be installed before or after the drywalls, depending on the client's preference, whilst the stairs should be installed once the flooring is completed to use the finish floor level for reference.
-
What’s the timeframe expected for the installation date?
KITCHENS - SUPPLY & LAYING
It is recommended that once the kitchen is ordered, the client looks into the countertop options available and if interested, proceeds with the booking, even if the kitchen has months to arrive. With the client's requirements in mind, a professional quotation will be provided based on the client's dimensions at hand. An installation date will then be given, should the client wish to proceed with Desana. This is often 3 to 4 weeks after the installation of the kitchen, always depending on the availability of the materials. The installer will then come to measure during those 3 to 4 weeks, and a revised quotation will be provided should there be any differences in measurements. Kindly note that the kitchen appliances would need to be available but not yet installed in order to measure on-site. With the client's go-ahead, the kitchen installation will then take place.
OTHERS - SUPPLY ONLY
With the client's requirements in mind, a professional quotation will be provided based on the client's dimensions at hand. Should the client wish to proceed, an approximate period of completion will then be discussed. For customers who want supply only, we recommend making a reservation about a month in advance. When the quotation is based on supply only, the measuring, delivery and installation are not included.

What types of projects do you cater for?
Desana Marbles has completed a variety of projects throughout the years, including big and small-scale residential, commercial, hospitality, and industrial projects that were accommodated for various budgets and needs. Depending on the client's requirements, the materials are priced from low to high, and there is also the option for supply only or to include transport and installation. Many custom-designed tasks were also taken care of.
